Laura was baptized at St. Nicholas church. The record transcribed: On the 11 June (corrected to July) I baptized Laura Walker, born 29 June 1875, legitimate daughter of William Walker and Camela Doulé, (—?—) Adolphe Etier (—?—), Caroline Doulé. Rev. Lapeyrusse.
The archivist at Diocese of Lafayette provided the following: “St. Nicholas, Lydia (originally at Patoutville) was established in 1868. The current church building was completed in 1965 after the previous building was destroyed in a hurricane.”
Several family trees on Ancestry.com appear with Laura’s name as Laura Amanda Walker. Her baptism record, marriage license and marriage church act do not provide a middle name. However, in the baptism records for her daughter Willie Lee Carrow and son Marcus, Laura’s name is recorded as Laura Manda Walker or Laura Mande Walker. One would think that either Laura gave her name to the priest as “Laura Amanda,” or her husband gave her name as such. In the citation for son Marcus, Southwest Louisiana Records Church and Civil Records Volume 47 (1914), it reads “CARROW, erad[sic] Mark (David Martial[sic] & Laura Mande WALKER.) Did the publisher make those mistakes or did the priest spell the names in the baptism record as shown? Are there any other records or documents with Laura’s middle name as Amanda? David Carrow’s baptism record transcribed: Marcel Carrow – In the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and seventy-eight and the 27th day of April, I baptized Marcel Carrow son of Cyprien Carrow and of Louis Boudreau. Sponsors Alexander Boudreau and Noemi (–?–). Rev. (–?–).
Though the name Marcel was recorded in the baptism record, it is most probably the record for David Marshall Carrow as the date of baptism is a few months after the date of birth David gave on his World War I & II draft registration cards. Additionally, there was not more than one couple in Louisiana at that time with the names of Cyprien Carrow and Louise Boudreaux. It is also likely that the French pronunciation of Marcel was interpreted as Marshall and the middle name Marshall was adopted.
